Europe, where are you going? Hypotheses on the political future of the continent

11 March 2026

What direction is Europe taking? What challenges await Western democracies in an increasingly complex and interconnected world? These questions will be at the heart of the conference “Europe, where are you going? Hypotheses on the political future of the continent”, scheduled for Thursday 19 March at 6:00 pm at the headquarters of the Manlio Cecovini Study Society, located at Viale Miramare 23 in Trieste.

The keynote speaker will be the Honourable Roberto Antonione, a leading figure in Italian and European institutional life. Over the course of his career he has held numerous prominent positions: Senator of the Republic, Member of Parliament, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President of the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, as well as President and later Secretary General of the Parliamentary Delegation of the Central European Initiative (CEI) and President of the United World College of the Adriatic.

In his address, Antonione will offer a broad and structured reflection on the political situation of the European continent, focusing on the geopolitical transformations currently underway, the pressures that the global context places on democratic institutions, and the possible prospects for Europe’s development in the coming years. The conference will therefore centre on the challenges of globalisation, Europe’s role on the international stage, and the conditions necessary to build a future founded on cooperation and peaceful coexistence among peoples.

Admission is free, subject to the availability of seats.
