On Tuesday, 4 February, at 6:00 PM, the Ubik Bookshop in Trieste (located inside the Galleria del Tergesteo, Piazza della Borsa 15) will host the presentation of Fabio Todero’s book "La patria alla frontiera. Storia dell'irredentismo adriatico"(published by Laterza).
The event, which is free to attend and organised by the Regional Institute for the History of Resistance and Contemporary Age in Friuli Venezia Giulia, will feature a conversation between the author and Luca G. Manenti, Scientific Director of the “Manlio Cecovini International Society for Historical, Social, and Ethical Studies,” along with historian Raoul Pupo.
The book explores the theme of Adriatic irredentism, a key phenomenon in the history of Italy’s eastern border. Todero carefully retraces the trajectory of these movements, starting with Italian aspirations during the Risorgimento era, moving through Slovenian and Croatian irredentism under Fascism, and concluding with the post-war conflicts. Through an analysis intertwining myth and history, sacrifice and conflict, the book narrates a region situated along a historical, political, and cultural fault line in Eastern Europe, whose effects are still felt today.
