Hosted by Antonio Trampus
The third installment of the lecture series promoted by the "Manlio Cecovini Study Society" is dedicated to Giacomo Casanova and his relationship with Freemasonry.
Presented by Antonio Trampus, the event is scheduled for
Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Antico Caffè San Marco in Trieste.
What do we know about the relationship between Giacomo Casanova and Freemasonry? The Venetian adventurer, known for his irregularities in behavior, love affairs, and social life, was irregular even in his Masonic experience. Nevertheless, his proximity to masonry and attendance at lodges remained one of the defining aspects of his entire life. The conference will trace the milestones of his journey, from initiation in Lyon in 1750 to the trial and imprisonment in the Piombi, from visits to Dutch lodges to his later Masonic experiences in Bohemia in the 1780s. Documents unearthed from Casanova's archive stored in Prague will accompany the reconstruction of a largely unknown picture.
