The cultural association "Manlio Cecovini Study Society" is promoting a series of lectures held on the third Tuesday of each month in Trieste.
The twelfth event is scheduled for Tuesday, 18 February 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Antico Caffè San Marco. Archaeologist Annalisa Giovannini will delve into the life of Giorgio Reiss Romoli, a young Triestine doctor of Jewish confession and pro-Italian sentiments, who died at Doberdò del Lago, altitude 208 South to save his brother Guglielmo, who was seriously wounded, are portrayed. His story in the war is intertwined with that of Giani and Carlo Stuparich and Guido Zanetti, offering a picture in which he is a doctor but above all an ‘older brother’.
The event, with free admission, will feature Annalisa Giovannini in conversation with Luca G. Manenti, the association’s scientific director.
THE SPEAKER – Annalisa Giovannini, an archaeologist trained at the Universities of Trieste, Rome – La Sapienza, and Ferrara, is an independent scientific researcher. Her interests focus on funerary archaeology, particularly Roman and Lombard, the history of archaeological heritage protection, and educational initiatives. She became involved in the archaeology of the Great War and, in particular, memorial studies through the fallen soldiers buried in the Cemetery of Heroes in Aquileia. She is the curator of the Civic Museums of Cervignano del Friuli and Romans d'Isonzo.
