On Tuesday, 21st May, the sixth event in the series of meetings organised by the cultural association “Manlio Cecovini Study Society” took place.
In the prestigious setting of the Antico Caffè San Marco, historian Luca G. Manenti - the scientific director of the Association - presented his latest book "Italian Freemasonry. From Its Origins to the New Millennium" (Carocci, Rome, 2024).
"Italian Freemasonry. From Its Origins to the New Millennium" is a volume that traces the history of Italian Freemasonry from the eighteenth to the twentieth century and amazes the reader with the precision of its research and the completeness of its bibliographic notes. Manenti has examined a wide selection of documents, intending to debunk both the negative and positive myths surrounding it, and to explore, with scientific rigour, the multiple aspects of an institution that has contributed to writing the biography of the country.
In conversation with Giuseppe Antonione, Andrea Comisso, and the attendees, the author delved into various topics related to Italian Freemasonry, addressing different historical, cultural, and philosophical aspects of the phenomenon. Well-known and lesser-known events were discussed, from the role of the lodges in the Risorgimento to their relationships with the political world, particularly with fascism, resolving complex and fascinating historiographical issues.
