"Freemasonry, a traditional perspective": in Trieste, Natale Mario di Luca Explorer the roots of the initiatic tradition

A journey back to the origins of Freemasonry to rediscover its traditional and initiatic dimension, beyond the interpretations and political and ideological influences that have marked its modern history. This will be the focus of the next event promoted by the Manlio Cecovini International Society for the Dissemination of Historical, Social and Ethical Studies, taking place on Friday 18 September at 6.00 pm at the Association’s headquarters, 23 Viale Miramare, Trieste.

The event will feature Natale Mario di Luca, who will present his book La Massoneria. Una visione tradizionale(Freemasonry. A Traditional Perspective), an essay in which the author examines Freemasonry through the lens of Tradition, tracing its origins, principles and aims.

The book is the result of many years of research and reflection and brings together material partly developed by the author in previous publications and partly unpublished, while also drawing on the extensive scholarship devoted to the subject in Italy and abroad over the past twenty-five years. At the heart of the analysis is an attempt to reconstruct an image of Freemasonry that differs from the one most deeply rooted in Italian public perception, which is often associated primarily with its political manifestations from the nineteenth century onwards.

The event will therefore offer an opportunity to explore the traditional and initiatic dimension of Freemasonry, examining its origins and the progressive influence of political and ideological elements from the early decades of the eighteenth century onwards. This historical and cultural perspective seeks to refocus attention on the lesser-known aspects of a complex and extensively studied phenomenon.

Natale Mario di Luca, born in Rome in 1949, was Professor of Legal Medicine at Sapienza University of Rome, where he pursued his entire academic career. He is the author of approximately 250 scientific publications, including treatises, monographs, chapters in edited volumes and articles in specialist journals. Alongside his academic career, he has pursued studies in Freemasonry and has published several books with Atanòr, including La Massoneria. Storia, miti e riti (2000), Arturo Reghini. Un intellettuale neo-pitagorico tra Massoneria e Fascismo (2003) and Documenti fondamentali della Massoneria. 1723-1875 (2008). He has also edited and contributed to the Italian editions of several works devoted to the Masonic tradition and its symbolic and esoteric foundations.
