An event gifted to the city, designed to evoke the atmosphere of the 1950s.
On Saturday, September 30th, the Teatro Verdi in Trieste hosted the conference "The halberd and the compass. The rebirth of Freemasonry in Trieste (1947-1954)" followed by a jazz concert, both dedicated to key moments in post-WWII Trieste.
In front of a large audience and introduced by Giuseppe Antonione, President of the Cultural Association "Società Internazionale di divulgazione Manlio Cecovini per gli studi storici sociali ed etici," Scientific Director Luca G. Manenti provided an overview of the history of Julian Freemasonry from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century, focusing particularly on its reconstitution at the end of the Second World War.
During the event, the figure of Michele Valente, author of a book on the subject that inspired the event, was commemorated.
The afternoon concluded with a concert by the Ragtime Jazz Band, introduced and commented on by Professor Marco Maria Tosolini. The ensemble, consisting of musicians Gino Cancelli, Franco Valussi, Sergio Bernetti, Marko Čepak, Andrea Zullian, and Igor Checchini, performed music by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Nate King Cole, and Lelio Luttazzi, accompanied by the vocals of Christel Di Candia and the Tip-Tap dancer, Greta Rizzotti.
"Trieste after the Second World War: words and music" event was organized by the Cultural Association "Società Internazionale di divulgazione Manlio Cecovini per gli studi storici sociali ed etici," with the support of the Municipality of Trieste.
