The presentation of the book "Si soffre ma si tace. Luigi Frausin, Natale Kolarič: Communists and Resistance Fighters"(Irsrec FVG, 2019), written by Patrick Karlsen and Luca G. Manenti, will take place on Tuesday, 16 April, at 6:00 PM at Ubik bookshop in Trieste (located inside the Galleria del Tergesteo, Piazza della Borsa 15). Manenti is also the scientific director of the Società Internazionale di divulgazione Manlio Cecovini per gli studi storici sociali ed etici.
The event, which is free to attend, will feature the authors alongside historian Gabriele Mastrolillo (Dispes Units – Irsrec FVG), who will act as moderator. The initiative is organised by the Regional Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Age in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Irsrec FVG) and the 25 April Committee, with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region – Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia.
After decades of interpretative layers and readings influenced by the political struggles of the Cold War era, this book aims to provide a clear and accurate account of the lives of Luigi Frausin and Natale Kolarič. Not only does it meticulously examine, with archival evidence in hand, their intellectual development, activism, and active participation in the Resistance, but it also dispels the clouds of distortion, misrepresentation, and manipulation that have surrounded their tragic fate over time.
Drawing on a vast collection of documents from both Italian and international archives—including an extensive survey of the large body of material preserved by Irsrec FVG—the book incorporates the latest and most thought-provoking historiographical insights. It finally restores the profiles of Frausin and Kolarič to history as they truly were: in their original and complex identities as Resistance fighters and frontier communists.
